When NASA first started sending up astronauts, they quickly discovered that ballpoint pens would not work in zero gravity. To combat the problem, NASA scientists spent a decade and $12 billion to develop a pen that writes in zero gravity, upside down, underwater, on almost any surface including glass and at temperatures ranging from below freezing to 300 C.
Nice story and a good moral, but not actually true. Pencil lead breaks and floats about potentially causing injury or damage. And Nasa did not pay for the development, they paid $2.95 per pen which was developed by Fisher
This doesn't have to be american it is just that Engineers(such as myself) over think every thing and forget there can be a simple answer that is normally found by someone with more common sense but not as smart.
I dont hate americans

This reminds me of a quote i heard from Murphy's Laws of combat. If its stupid and it works it isnt stupid. However, if you spent that much, and the pen doesnt even float, then you're stupid arent you? Typically American
